Saturday 11th February 19:30 - Wine Tasting Evening
Wine flowed freely presented by our Sommelier, Rob Fairhurst.
To spice things up he also asked us to identify the wine we were sampling by reference to multiple choice descriptions: for some strange reason this task became harder as the evening progressed!
The fantastic selection of wines shown opposite was offered and greatfully sampled.
Our sincere thanks go to Rob and Chris Fairhurst, Emily Franklin and Ellie Mawbey for organising, cooking, serving, helping and pouring the wine. It was a great evening very much enjoyed by all.
We're looking forward to wine tasting 2013 already!

The wines we had on the table for the evening:
- Fairleigh Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010/2011 Marlborough
Crisp, balanced and fruit driven, with lots of gooseberries, passion fruit and a fresh, citrus finish.
- Rioja Blanco, Barrel Fermented 2009/2010 Marques de Caceres
From one of the finest producers in Spain comes this remarkable white with soft, rounded vanilla, pear and cream characters from ageing in new French barrels.
- Côtes du Rhône 2009 Vidal-Fleury
Brilliant garnet in colour, with a classic nose of bramble fruits and heady spice. The medium-bodied palate has fresh and snappy red fruit surrounded by firm and persistent tannins
- Anakena Indo Carmenère 2010 Cachapoal Valley
The nose combines dark damson and plum fruit with subtle aromas of roasted coffee bean and rosewood smoke, which the palate is ripe, soft, and held together by elegantly polished tannins.
- Brown Brothers Late Harvest Muscat 2010, Victoria
Golden in Colour, with a nose of apricot, apple and oranges, dried marmalade fruits on the palate and sweetness balanced by good acidity leaving a fresh, lingering finish.
- Vieux Remparts 2009 Lussac St-Emilion
This is a rich, full bodied wine showing great concentration of flavour. With juicy black fruit on the nose and palate backed up by a smoky sandalwood character.
